HIIT and Run with AquaGym Fitness founder, Stephanie Newberry, is a water fitness instructor video that combines combat-inspired HIIT segments with water running. The HIIT segments feature punching and kicking exercises and are finished off with one minute of high intensity sprinting. This shallow water class format uses just the power of the water and requires no equipment.
In baseball terms, a hit and run is a strategy to advance the runner through the bases and hopefully to a scoring position. The “hit” in this video refers to high intensity interval training (HIIT). Each HIIT segment includes 4 minutes of punch & kick exercises, followed by a 1-minute run of the bases. Stephanie is known for her fast-paced, interval-style workouts. AquaGym classes feature challenging but easy-to-follow routines. The repetition of the exercises delivers muscle conditioning results.
HIIT and Run Aquatic Fitness Class-at-a-Glance
This aqua instructor video includes a warmup, cooldown and seven exercise segments. The class is 50 minutes in length. Playing off the “Hit & Run” reference to baseball, the seven exercise segments are referred to as innings. Each of the 5-minute innings includes four minutes of HIIT training and one minute of water running. Each HIIT portion includes two exercises, an upper body punch and a lower body kick. The upper body and lower body exercises are performed for 50 seconds followed by 10 seconds of rest and then repeated. The 60-second sprint in each of the innings varies in intensity from hard, harder to hardest.
Below, Stephanie talks about the importance of inspiring yourself to better inspire others on their wellness journey.
