AquaBata with Melissa Plumeau is a shallow water workout that features 8 Tabata/HIIT intervals designed to challenge your fitness through powerful progressions, grounded strength and dynamic movement. Simple in structure, purposeful in design, AquaBata is a class designed to build strength, endurance and confidence, one interval at a time.
Tabata class formats are nothing new to Fitmotivation subscribers. Several videos with Tabata formats have been posted on the platform over the past 12 years. Tabata and HIIT pretty much took over the aquatic fitness world 10 years ago. Tabata is a favorite format for both class participants and instructors. For instructors, it is a simple class to teach because you just drop exercises into a preformatted Tabata music playlist. Tabata pool workouts feature eight 4-minute rounds of exercises. Each round includes 8 exercises performed for 20 seconds of work and 10 seconds of rest.
Below, Melissa describes the purpose behind her Tabata design and then read on for a summary of the 8 intervals.
CLASS SUMMARY
AquaBata includes a warmup, cool down and 8 Tabata intervals. Each interval is intentionally designed to target a specific outcome. Half of the intervals emphasize grounded strength, core stability, power and muscular endurance. The other half include dynamic, explosive movement to develop agility, coordination and cardiovascular fitness.
There is no equipment required for this workout. The water’s resistance is plenty.
Below is a description of each interval. How you “theme” your Tabata intervals can make one workout completely different than the other.
Interval 1: Grounded Strength & Power
Interval 2: Jumping Jacks Explosive Cardio
Interval 3: Grounded Strength & Power
Interval 4: Cross Country Skis Explosive Cardio
Interval 5: Grounded Strength & Power
Interval 6: Speed & Agility Explosive Cardio
Interval 7: Grounded Strength & Power
