Treat your class members to a deep water circuit challenge. Join Mushi Harush for Deep Energy, a water fitness class format that features several circuits that include 5 exercises, each targeting a different fitness goal. The five exercises in each circuit include one each for: 1) speed 2) upper body 3) lower body 4) core 5) power. This workout utilizes the water’s resistance, and no additional equipment is required. However, a flotation belt is required when exercising in the deep end.
Deep Energy was originally called Deep Five, and it has consistently been one of Mushi’s most popular deep water classes and workshops. An international training specialist for the Aquatic Exercise Association (AEA), Mushi is the founder of the Israeli Aquatic Exercise Center.
DEEP ENERGY: AQUATIC FITNESS CLASS-AT-A-GLANCE
This 45-minute deep water class format includes a warm-up, cool down and six exercise circuits. Each circuit includes 5 exercises that target five different fitness goals, including total body muscular endurance and two skill-related fitness principles, speed and power.
Each of the six exercise circuits is 4:30 minutes. Below is the structure for each of the circuits.
1. Speed – 30 seconds
2. Lower Body – 1 minute
3. Upper body – 1 minute
4. Core – 1 minute
5. Power – 1 minute
A flotation belt is required in deep water exercise for safety reasons. However, the belt also plays a crucial role in providing neutral buoyancy on the waist, which frees up the arms to perform powerfully and aerobically in the workout. Without the neutral buoyancy provided by the belt, the limbs would be more invested in sculling and treading to keep the body vertical and aligned during exercise activities. Watch the video below to better understand the importance of a flotation belt in deep water exercise, so that you can share this information with students who don’t think they need to wear a belt in class.
