LIQUID FLEX & FLOW – YOGA HIIT

Tuesday, July 02 2019

Preview video includes both Liquid Hi/Lo & Liquid Flex & Flow.  Liquid Flex & Flow was posted in the Premium plan on October 7, 2015

Liquid Flex & Flow features an aquatic fusion of yoga, cardio and power moves.  The lower body intervals feature a circuit of power moves (work) and yoga poses (recovery).  The upper body segment features choreographed arm movement - grounded and stabilized - that can be used with webbed gloves or drag equipment.  There is also a segment on intensifying arm patterning with neutral position in the water.

This video was filmed in 2008, pre-HIIT days, but the programming in the first part of this video would provide a unique twist on a HIIT class - with yoga poses serving as the recovery phase.  The power moves featured in this video are HUGE lower movements that jack up the heart rate sufficiently for a HIIT work cycle.Haven't really explored putting yoga in your class?  This video is a good start for getting a visual of some yoga poses adapted for water.  Fusing the poses with explosive power moves is also an ideal way to introduce yoga into a chilly pool.

The second part of this video is all about arms.  Naturally, I choreographed the living heck out of the arm patterns, but feel free to separate out the individual arm moves and teach them linear.  The arm patterns can be used with webbed gloves or other drag equipment.  There is also a segment where I alternate powerful arm patterns between Level I (bounded) and Level II (neutral).   Explore the power of performing arm patterns in neutral position where the entire lever (arm) is submerged in the water's resistance.  Ouch!
