Neurobic and Balance Aqua Class

Give your class members a break from high intensity cardio and strength training and sneak in some active recovery that includes neurobic challenges and balance training.  Aqua Balance & Brain Flow with Maria Teresa Stone is a shallow water class format that features lower intensity movement sequences for both the brain and the body.

Doing high intensity cardio and strength in your classes is fine, but that should not be all you do. Cardiorespiratory and muscular endurance are just two of the essential components.  To ensure optimal health and wellness for your students, it is important to include joint mobility, muscular flexibility, balance, coordination, brain fitness and more in your classes. The movement sequences in this class are specifically designed to exercise the brain and body with neurobic agility and coordination challenges, followed by “brain breaks” that feature balance training.
Below, Maria talks more about her content and then read on for a summary of the class format.

Aqua Balance & Brain Flow - Class Summary
This 45-minute shallow water class format includes a warm-up, cool down and four 10-minute Balance & Brain Flow sequences. There is no equipment required in this class.
The neurobic movement breakdown of each sequence is as follows:
Begin with a unilateral arm movement
Add in the opposite leg with the unilateral arm movement
Repeat with the other arm, and then add in the other (oppostire) leg
Perform the movement with bilateral arms.
Then do just the legs (both)
Then combine bilateral arms and legs

Once the neurobic sequence is taught, a “brain break” follows. This is intended to give the students a rest from concentrating on the coordination of the limbs. In the video, Maria uses balance training exercises for the brain breaks. However, core training or arthritis exercises could easily be swapped in.
