Stretch Fusion was Laurie Denomme’s signature aqua fitness series for many years and included several DVDs.  In June 2015 she launched the Fitmotivation Fitness Friends series with a short video, Stretch Fusion: Salute to 3D Movement.   Laurie talked about the Stretch Fusion series and her new program, WECOACH, in an exclusive Fitmotivation Video News interview.  Fitmotivation video subscribers now have an opportunity to watch the full-length version of Stretch Fusion, the first DVD in the series.

Below, Laurie answers some questions regarding Stretch Fusion and extends an official invitation to join her on an exclusive coaching call.

What is Stretch Fusion?
Laurie:  Stretch Fusion is my answer to flexibility training.  The workout uses elements of yoga and Tai Chi combined with active movements that take advantage of buoyancy and resistance.  Exercises flow from one to the next using a mix of static postures and dynamic movement patterns.

What was the inspiration behind Stretch Fusion concept? Laurie:  The creation of the Stretch Fusion workout is personal.  When I exercise in the pool I like a good cardio program that gets my heart rate up, but I tend to spend more time doing slow and controlled movements.  For me it just feels good.  When I first started to use some of the exercises from my workouts in my group classes, they asked for more.  It didn't take long for my workout 'endings' to become full-length workouts and soon after developed into one of my first educational courses for professionals.

What are the benefits of this type of programming?
Laurie:  The results vary among participants.  Some clients say it gives them a sense of calm and relaxation needed to help reduce stress, while others say they feel energized, as they become more in-tune with their body movement.  Overall the biggest benefits reported are: decreased joint and muscle pain as well as improvements in mobility, core strength and balance.

How can instructors use this material in their classes?  Laurie:  The original Stretch Fusion video gives you three ready to use routines that can used as a final stretch to any water workout or if you have a warm water pool, combine all three for a 45-minute flexibility focused workout.  I also use the stretch fusion exercises as recovery moves in an interval workout or sneak them in between segments of a more choreographed routine for a short break.  The short 'stretch fusion breaks' help students to refocus on posture and good movement technique, which carries over to the cardio or strength exercises that follow.

Stretch Fusion and Beyond Since the creation of her first stretch fusion workout, over 10 years ago, Laurie says the foundation of all stretch fusion workouts have remained the same: integration of exercises that move the body in all 3 planes of motion.  “In order to simplify delivery and help students get better results I developed a simple formula that can be applied to any workout, says Laurie.”
