The sassy inspiration behind this video began during the Covid pandemic when people were quarantined and couldn’t go to the gym or the pool. Shelley teaches for her daughter, Sharlie Peterson’s Topeka-based business, Shockwave Aqua Fitness. Like many other fitness professionals during the pandemic, they filmed various in-home exercise videos as an alternative to attending live classes. As a substitute instructor for the Silver Sneakers chair-based fitness program, Shelley was comfortable with leading chair exercise sessions.
Sassy Senior Sitdown is a 30-minute chair exercise program that includes the following segments.
Segment 1: This segment serves as an extended warm-up to move the muscles and joints and features seated exercises for both upper and lower body.
Segment 2: This segment features seated exercises with a lower body focus.
Segment 3: The action in this segment takes place standing and behind the chair and includes lots more lower body exercises.
Segment 4: Let’s play ball! This segment features exercises using a standard “kick-ball sized” plastic ball.
Segment 5: The video concludes with a final stretch of all of the major muscle groups.
