Boxing and Combat Circuit Class

Treat your class members to a fierce and fun kickboxing cardio circuit. Aqua Fight Club with Claire Barker-Hemings is an aquatic fitness video that alternates boxing and combat exercise rounds.

Claire is an aquatic fitness training specialist in Australia, and this is her fourth time filming with Fitmotivation. After attending AEA’s International Aquatic Fitness & Therapy Conference (IAFTC), which was held in Palm Harbor, Florida, Claire and Maria Teresa Stone returned with me to film 8 videos. The combination of conference and then filming was rather brutal, but well worth the effort. Aqua Fight Club is the first of Claire’s four videos to post this summer. Aqua Zumba Express was Maria’s first of four videos to post.  Maria is a well-known Zumba Education Specialist (ZES) and aquatic fitness professional, and lives and works in both New Zealand and Mexico.

Content Inspiration
A former Les Mills Body Combat instructor, Claire was inspired to create the video content because of her love of combat-style training. She wanted to take her studio class content and create a similar workout in the pool. Designed with traditional boxing rounds in mind, her martial arts background and the principles of interval training also helped create the final product.  Below, Claire talks more about her inspiration for creating the video content. Then read on for a summary of the Aqua Fight Club class format.

AQUA FIGHT CLUB – VIDEO SUMMARY
This 50-minute aquatic fitness class format includes a warm-up, cool down and five 7-minute boxing and combat rounds.
Boxing Rounds
The boxing rounds in each exercise segment are 3 minutes long, which is the same as professional boxing rounds. Each boxing round includes six 30-second exercises. Teaching the boxing in 30-second intervals keeps boxing style movement easier for your class members to follow.  The goal of the boxing rounds is to target the upper body muscle groups and encourage speed and power in the water’s resistance.
Combat Rounds
The combat rounds are 4-5 minutes in duration. They are designed to train coordination and agility with slower and more controlled movement. The exercise focus shifts to lower body with kicking combos.
Alternating circuits of boxing and combat ensures varying training goals and intensity levels for a results-driven cardio and muscle conditioning workout.
Equipment
Equipment is not required in this workout. However, webbed swim gloves or other aqua boxing gloves would be ideal for maximizing the water’s resistance. The Hydrorevolution uppers & lowers could also be utilized for a progressive challenge.

Fitmotivation extends a big thank you to Claire for once again returning to Florida for filming. Check out her full library of Fitmotivation videos and stay tuned for three more of her videos posting this summer and fall.
