Holiday or Anytime Aquafit Class

Tuesday, November 28 2023

AquaGym Fitness™ and Stephanie Newberry are back with 12 MORE Moves of Fitness. Fitmotivation subscribers loved the original 2021 video, The 12 Moves of Fitness, and so we decided to film a sequel. Performed in deep or shallow water, the 12 water exercises in this routine are added on with progressive repetitions that follow the structure of the song, The 12 Days of Christmas. Instructors can teach this class in December with a holiday playlist or any time of the year with your favorite music.

REPETITION VS TIMED INTERVALS
Unlike most AquaGym Fitness workouts, this aquatic fitness video is based on repetitions rather than timed intervals. The first move of fitness is performed for one minute and that is the only exercise that is timed. After the first move, all other eleven exercises are performed for the number of repetitions that correspond to the numerical sequence. For example, the fourth move is performed for four repetitions and the tenth move is performed for ten repetitions. It doesn’t sound like much, but the twist here is that all of the preceding exercises and repetitions accumulate as the routine progresses, just like the Christmas presents accumulate in the popular holiday song.

AQUATIC FITNESS CLASS CONSIDERATIONS
Repetition based templates are performed at a pace that is suitable for the fitness level of each individual participant. In an aquatic fitness class, members will be completing Moves 2 through 11 at varying times. Therefore, the instructor will have to constantly cue the line-up of moves for those working at different paces, especially as the exercises start accumulating. The 1st move is a timed 1-minute and that allows time for the participants to regroup. Class participants should be encouraged to compete with themselves and not others in the pool. However, in a group setting it is common for participants to put in more effort if they see their peers working hard. Instructors just need to constantly remind participants to work at their own fitness level. The 12 Moves of Fitness has become a tradition in AquaGym Fitness classes. “Our clients know they will see this workout in the month of December, and more than once,” says AquaGym Fitness Founder, Stephanie Newberry. According to Stephanie, class members often groan when this template is announced because they know they are going to work hard. Watch Stephanie talk more about the 12 Moves of Fitness as seen in the original video blog.

MUSIC
Holiday music was purposely left out of the original video and the regular edition of the sequel so that subscribers can do these workouts at any time of the year. However, we thought it would be fun to procure some royalty-free holiday music and make a holiday edition.  Instructors can use whatever music playlist they want. The moves are not performed to the cadence and so the BPM does not matter. However, a faster BPM, such as 132 or above would probably provide more motivation.

Heading into the holiday season, the 12 More Moves of Fitness is the perfect class template to keep your participants fit, motivated and burning calories. Fitmotivation extends a big thank you to Stephanie for giving us a sequel to a subscriber favorite. Stay tuned for another fun video with Stephanie posting soon.
