Tsunami Aquatic Fitness Class

Wednesday, March 26 2025

Let your class members know that a Tsunami is coming. Stephanie Newberry with AquaGym Fitness is back with another fast-paced interval-style workout. Tsunami 6 features 50 -minutes of high intensity exercise that includes six waves of action. Each Tsunami Wave is timed for 6 minutes with ladder timing (:10 :20 :30 :40 :50 :60 :50 :40 :30 :20 :10).  Deep or shallow, get your students to high ground because big waves are coming and they are bringing big results.

AquaGym Fitness (AGF) and Stephanie Newberry are Fitmotivation subscriber favorites. They have shared many of their favorite high intensity interval classes over the past 6 years.  They are known for their easy-to-teach, easy-to-follow, but challenging aqua classes that require minimal thinking but maximum effort.

Creating a Tsunami
The inspiration and title for this workout is thanks to the ladder timing used for each exercise segment. Ladder timing is like a ladder because it starts out with exercises with shorter timed duration, increases to exercises with longer timed duration, and then decreases back to shorter timed duration. Each of the six Tsunami Waves is timed for 6 minutes as follows: :10 :20 :30 :40 :50 :60 :50 :40 :30 :20 :10. The timing resembles a wave because it builds to a peak and then recedes.

Choosing Exercises for Each Wave
The exercises for each of the six waves in this workout were carefully selected to create a theme for the individual waves. For example, one wave is all about jumping jack variations and another is centered around cross-country ski variations. There is a wave dedicated to kick variations. The most challenging wave is all about bounding and suspended shoot moves. Selecting exercises for the waves is where an instructor can channel their creativity. There are only six exercises needed for each wave, which means it should be easy to come up with some innovative themes for the waves. Consider consulting Aqua Alphabet or Aqua Olympics for some theme ideas.

Dual Depth
Tsunami 6 can be instructed in both deep and shallow water. Fitmotivation strives to post as many dual depth videos as possible because it provides subscribers with the ability to teach the class in the depth they prefer or have access to.

Fitmotivation extends gratitude to Stephanie for once again making the trip to Sarasota for another round of filming. She was sorely missed in 2024 and we are happy to have her back on the team this year. Check out all of Stephanie’s Fitmotivation videos, and stay tuned for another AquaGym Fitness video posting soon.
